The Children Are My Gods Now

The Children are My Gods Now is a collection of poems from the past ten years of my life exploring themes of depression, religion, children, and parenthood. With tender anger, I write about my experience growing up in Colorado and in conservative Evangelicalism in the U.S., dealing with depression, and the struggle of raising children through a pandemic and beyond.

The Children Are My Gods Now by Levi Rogers is a raw, evocative, and humorous collection of poetry that pulses with the chaos, beauty, and contradictions of life. Rogers explores the weight of parenthood, the tense journey of separating from one’s religious faith, the relationship between the two, and the impact these experiences can have on a life with poignant honesty and unflinching wit.

Christian Orellana, author of In the Pocket of a Beast

In a collection dealing with anger, betrayal, and losing oneself, Levi Rogers’ The Children Are My Gods Now leaves the reader with a surprising sense of ease. Rogers delivers the rawness of alienation with a vulnerability that makes the grief accessible and opens spaces for healing and calm.

Lucy Cohen, author of Weaning Stories.
